The Story

Clarkston , MI

Danielle Ballard (33) is a hardworking woman with a heart for helping others. In 2013, she adopted four of her younger siblings after her father passed away. In an instant she became a mother of four. Marko (16), Joanna (14), Jordan (13), and Denzel (9) mean the world to her. “I have cared for them and loved them by trying to provide them with the best life in my ability,” said Danielle.

In 2016, Danielle’s life changed when she was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. During this time, she received news that the cancer had spread to her back and was in multiple vertebrae. Doctors informed Danielle that she would need to go through chemotherapy treatments and surgery. “I had multiple procedures done to try and salvage the bones from completely deteriorating,” said Danielle. Unfortunately, this was not possible and Danielle had multiple brackets put in her spine. Doctors also determined that Danielle had multiple myeloma, a type of cancer in the plasma cells, and would need a bone marrow and stem cell transplant.

Since her diagnosis, Danielle has been affected physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Before being diagnosed with cancer, Danielle went to school for behavioral sciences and criminal justice. She was accepted into the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) training academy and was so excited to begin her career. Unfortunately, due to her diagnosis she has been unable to pursue her dreams. “Some days it’s a struggle. The hardship that cancer brings to a family is immeasurable, but knowing that you have love and understanding from your family is a key to success while battling cancer,” said Danielle.

Danielle has been on the list for a match for about a year and a half. She was extremely blessed when a donor match was found. As of late May 2018, she began a strong dose of chemotherapy to prepare for her the transplant. This procedure will change Danielle’s life; however it is extremely costly.

Danielle hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to assist with the cost of both a stem cell and bone marrow transplant. Reaching this goal will help her tremendously in receiving a bone marrow transplant and stem cell transplant. It will also help with maintenance for her and her bone marrow donor. Your fee-free donation will make a great difference in Danielle’s life. Donate and share her story today!
