The Story

Flagstaff, AZ

Haley Reynolds (19) is a full-time college student at Northern Arizona University. She also work as a hostess 25 hours a week. When she is not working or at school, she is usually dog-sitting which is one of her happiest hobbies. She is now hoping a helping hound will be able to provide her with much-needed anxiety relief.

From an early age, Haley has had issues with her mental health. She was first diagnosed with major depression and anxiety panic disorder when she was 12 years old. She started seeing a therapist once a week, but her anxiety worsened forcing her to be hospitalized three separate times. Following her hospitalization, Haley was prescribed medication and attended an intense outpatient program to help her manage her condition.

Due to the severity of her condition, Haley has become very reliant on her medication which leaves her constantly drowsy. Her anxiety and drowsiness holds her back from going out and making friends like most college students should. “I have always felt ashamed for being this way and I didn’t want it to affect the way people thought of me,” said Haley. To improve her quality of life, she was recently accepted to receive a psychiatric assistance dog through Little Angels Service Dogs of San Diego, California.

Haley’s Little Angels service dog will be trained to sense when she is becoming anxious and help her refocus and work through the problem. Her pup will also provide much-needed companionship when she is feeling lonely. Haley hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to be placed with a service dog and begin the training process. “This dog will be the best thing to ever happen to me since I have exhausted all of my other options,” Haley said. Help Haley the assistance she needs to live a happy, independent life! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and sharing her story today.
