The Story

HARTFORD, CT

Helping Young People Evolve (HYPE) was started to assist, empower, and evolve inner city youth through building positive relationships and being a mentor and positive role model. For the past three years, HYPE has been directly engaging with residents by going into and serving the neighborhoods that are really affected by violence and poverty. “We let our actions speak louder than our words. HYPE leads by example for there is no love without sacrifice,” said Warren Hardy, HYPE founder.

Every weekend in July and August, HYPE serves summer meals to impoverished neighborhoods throughout Hartford, Connecticut with the focus of saving lives through direct engagement with residents in need. The HYPE summer barbecue events have grown to serve over 3,000 residents. The event has various recreational activities for the youth to play like double-dutch, kickball, and hopscotch. Information for job opportunities, mentoring, job training, and food assistance are also readily available to families in need.

With summer quickly approaching, HYPE leaders hope to raise $8,100 through RedBasket.org to purchase food and supplies for their upcoming cookout events. “HYPE has been growing over the years and is in need of support to continue this mission that will result in saving lives and making our community safer,” said Warren. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and sharing this story today. Let’s help HYPE continue to make an impact in the lives of youth and families throughout the Hartford community!

Warren does important work with the youth of Hartford that are at risk of experiencing gun violence. We’ll never know how many lives he’s saved, but what we do know is that his work MUST continue.
