The Story

Orrville, AL

Since October 2017, the Resource Center has been dedicated to providing support for young adults with disabilities. As young adults aged out of the school system, they needed a place where they could interact with their peers, learn at their own pace, and make friends and memories along the way. Volunteers stepped up to create the Resource Center to fill this gap in the community.

The mission of the Resource Center is to promote programs that involve education, recreation, and fitness for people with disabilities and support each other with unity, dignity, and love. To grow their mission, the Resource Center is planning to enhance their health and physical program. This program will give each student a chance to be involved in activities whether they need help with fine motor skills, balancing, gripping objects, or coordination. “Setting aside time to work on their skills will encourage them to participate instead of sitting on the sideline,” said owner, Karen Pettaway.

The Resource Center hopes to raise $1,500 through RedBasket.org to purchase a variety of inclusive, occupational therapy supplies including, but not limited to balls, exercise equipment, balance beams to help with walking, mats, coordination games, and books in large print. Raising these funds will help each student strengthen their fine motor skills, develop a knowledge of how to maintain proper fitness, and enhance their quality of life. Your fee-free donation will help create a lasting impact on the lives of students at the Resource Center. Donate and share their story today!
