The Story

Bullard, TX

Darla Jones is a single mother of two children. She works as a personal trainer at a gym in her hometown of Bullard. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time outside, fishing, going for walks, and exploring nature with her family. While Darla has always needed glasses or contacts, her vision rapidly declined over the last year.

As 2017 progressed, Darla noticed more and more issues with her vision. She assumed it was due to the natural aging process and scheduled an eye appointment. In January 2018, Darla’s eye doctor discovered that her condition could not be simply fixed by a stronger prescription. She was diagnosed with keratoconus, a degenerative corneal disease that could lead to blindness if left untreated.

Due to the current state of her condition, Darla has maintained most of her vision though it is gradually declining. Everything is blurrier, but she has been able to function at work and home. She has completely stopped driving when it gets dark due to having difficulty seeing signs and the road. To prevent corneal transplants or blindness, Darla began to research other treatment options. She discovered a treatment in California that would require two surgeries, but has been successful in correcting the vision of others with a similar condition.

In need of financial assistance, Darla hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to cover the cost of the procedure expenses and follow-up care. “Being able to see the world clearly is a gift I cannot fathom or measure,” Darla said. “I don’t know exactly what that will feel like, but I imagine it will be the greatest gift I’ve received.” Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and help this mother have many brighter and clearer days in the future.
