The Story

Plant city, FL

Destinee Holt recently graduated from high school and was looking forward to starting her college career. She lives at home with her mother, father, and three brothers. When she found out she was going to have a baby, she was excited to be a mother.

Throughout her pregnancy, Destinee was dealing with numerous health issues. She developed high blood pressure, a high heart rate, and a tumor was discovered on her neck and head. At just 32 weeks, Destinee went into labor and gave birth to her sweet baby boy on February 23, 2018. Being born almost two months early, her baby boy was immediately admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

While in the hospital, Destinee was further examined and had a biopsy on one of her tumors. The results revealed it was cancerous and would need further treatment. Destinee was immediately airlifted to UF Shands Children’s Hospital to undergo a surgical procedure. She was diagnosed with stage 4 anaplastic large cell lymphoma which spread throughout her body and in her bones. “We were all shocked, but my family and friends have been very supportive,” Destinee said.

Destinee recently started a five-month treatment plan that will take place every three weeks for five days at a time. “I have lost my hair and am separated from my son,” she said. She plans to travel the nearly three-hour drive with her mother and baby boy to Gainesville, Florida for each treatment. To offset the treatment and out-of-pocket medical expenses, she hopes to raise $5,000 through RedBasket.org. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and help relieve the financial stress of Destinee’s road to recovery. Share her story today!
