The Story

Huntsville, AL

Since 1984, the Food Bank of North Alabama has been working diligently to end hunger by offering hunger relief programs that immediately feed people in need. The organization is dedicated to addressing the root cause of hunger within the community through local food initiatives that foster entrepreneurship and healthy food access.

In 2014, a hunger study completed by the food bank estimated that over 80,000 individuals in the 11 counties the food bank serves received emergency food every year. This study was done with a team of volunteers who surveyed hundreds of clients at partner feeding programs. Many of these people are served through food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens affiliated with the Food Bank of North Alabama. Thousands more are served through non-emergency feeding programs by the food bank including after-school tutoring classes, group homes for those who are mentally ill or intellectually disadvantaged, and backpack programs for children. The purchase of the soup will go to individuals benefitting from these programs.

While the food bank is blessed with dedicated staff, volunteers, and donors, the need for more food is always there. The Food Bank of North Alabama hopes to raise $2,000 through RedBasket.org to purchase canned soup. Raising these funds will make a tremendous difference in the lives of individuals who may not know where they’ll get their next meal. “The purchase of the soup will contribute towards feeding approximately 80,000 people who seek food assistance each year,” said Community Relations Manager Laura Fincher. Your tax deductible donation will help feed a number of hungry individuals and families in the Huntsville area. Donate and share the Food Bank of North Alabama’s story today!
