The Story

Middle River, MD

Cooper Goldstraw (16) is a Life Scout from Middle River, Maryland. He joined scouting as a Tiger at the age of six. After years of hard work and service, he is planning his final project to reach the highest honor of Eagle Scout.

Todd’s Inheritance in Edgemere, Maryland, served as a lookout point during the War of 1812. During the war, the British burned the property causing extensive damage. However, the War of 1812 Society has been working to restore the property to the way it was prior to the war. When Cooper discovered the restoration efforts, he decided to partner with the society for his Eagle Scout project and help revive Todd’s Inheritance.

With the assistance of volunteers and family, Cooper will be repainting sections of the fence along the road and parking area. He also plans to restore the garden area near the parking area. They will add fresh soil, weed barrier, mulch, and native plants to beautify the lot. The garden walls will also receive a lift by rebuilding them with stones that are found throughout the property. Cooper plans to start his project during the first week of April.

Cooper hopes to raise $1,500 through RedBasket.org to purchase the supplies needed to repair and refurbish the fence and garden at Todd’s Inheritance. “I think it is important to restore our historic landmarks so that all generations can enjoy it and learn from it,” Cooper said. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and help this young man soar to the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Share his story today!
