The Story

Eatonton, GA

Sandy Kitchens (46) is a loving and supportive mother and grandmother. Her two sons, Leevi (27) and Garrett (21) are her world and she absolutely adores her granddaughters Finley and Miller. Sandy has always worked hard to provide for her family and give them a great life.

In October 2017, Sandy planned a trip to visit her oldest son in Savannah, Georgia. She has always been family-oriented, so she had been looking forward to this trip. While she was in Savannah, she noticed a lump in her left breast. She knew something wasn’t right and ended up cutting her trip short to schedule an appointment with her doctor. On December 5, Sandy was diagnosed with aggressive HER2-positive breast cancer.

Since her diagnosis, Sandy has been going through aggressive chemotherapy treatments. These treatments often leave Sandy feeling ill and fatigued. This has kept her out of work and has kept her away from living an active lifestyle. However, she has been blessed with a tremendous support system that keeps her going. “Family and friends have been very supportive. My oldest son even moved back home from Savannah to be closer to me,” said Sandy.

With numerous treatments to go through and medical bills coming in, Sandy is in need of assistance. Her family hopes to raise $9,000 through RedBasket.org to offset the cost of her medical bills. “Meeting my goal will take a lot of stress off of me by not being worried about financials on top of dealing with this,” Sandy said. Raising these funds will allow Sandy to focus on recovering without the added stress of medical bills piling up. Your donation will make an incredible difference in Sandy’s life. Donate and share her story today!

The Next Step |

We saw the surgeon today, Dr. Keith Martin.  After today’s exam and sonogram, Dr. Martin has recommended a total massectomy on Sandy’s left Breast and removal of the closest gland. He has also recommended a lumpectomy on her right breast for two non-malignant tumors.   The surgery will take place 4 weeks after her sixth chemo which is April 5th and will probably  be around the first of May.  Dr. Martin has also recommended six weeks of five days a week radiation.

Following radiation, Sandy will take 8 more months of Her-2 chemo and six months after surgery she will undergo reconstruction.

Please continue to pray for and stand with Sandy.  Thank you all
