The Story

Marion, SC

Since 2010, the Hands of Faith Community Soup Kitchen has been devoted to sharing the love of Jesus Christ by offering balanced and nutritious meals and by providing a place of fellowship and understanding for those in need. The soup kitchen is known for bringing the community together and exhibiting unity and a caring spirit.

Throughout the years, volunteers have worked to create an uplifting environment for the soup kitchen. “We take a lot of pride in not just offering food to the needy, but offering good food in a friendly, welcoming environment,” said founder Janice Lane. Hands of Faith Community Soup Kitchen strives to offer homemade soup, fruit, and beverages to people coming in to get a meal. Every meal begins with a brief devotion, prayer requests, and blessing of the meal. “We believe that every human being should be treated with respect and dignity and that everyone is welcome,” said Janice.

Over the years, the Hands of Faith Community Soup Kitchen has seen an incredible amount of growth. On their first day of operation, they served four people. Today they prepare meals for approximately 180 people each week. This includes delivering 110 meals to shut-ins. However, with the Marion County food insecurity rate at a staggering 23.2 percent, the soup kitchen is always in need of donations.

Hands of Faith Community Soup Kitchen hopes to raise $5,840 through RedBasket.org to purchase food, paper goods, and storage shelves. Raising these funds will make a tremendous difference in the lives of staff, volunteers, and most importantly, clients. “If we were able to achieve our goals in fundraising, then we would have peace of mind and be assured that this mission and endeavor would continue for the people of Marion County, South Carolina,” said Janice.
