The Story

Lincoln, NE

Isabel Inness (6) is a happy young girl who is full of life. She has a love for animals, dance, music, and painting. She spends a lot of time riding her bike and spending time with her big sister, Haley, whom she looks up to. While Isabel lives a very active lifestyle, her diagnosis of sensory processing disorder (SPD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has held her back.

Isabel’s parents, Chris and Jenny, were blessed early when she came into the world a month before she was due. This was one of the happiest days of the family’s lives, however after noticing their baby wasn’t eating, was sick, and was in pain, they ended up staying in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) for 11 days. After numerous tests, they learned that Isabel was allergic to milk and had bad reflux. She was then given a special formula and medication which worked for a little while. In 2013 she was diagnosed with SPD and ASD. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone several months of therapies to help her function, eat, and speak.

Isabel’s diagnosis has been extremely hard for her and her family. Chris and Jenny were relieved to have answers, but were also nervous because they were walking into an unknown territory. “At age six now, she has come so far but still has so far to go,” said Jenny. It has been difficult for Isabel to do everyday tasks and make new friends. However, Isabel has been blessed with a loving and supportive family.

After numerous medications and therapies, the Innesses found that being around dogs brings a sense of peace and calmness to Isabel. This led them to an organization called Domesti-PUPS. Domesti-PUPS trains therapy and service dogs that perform a variety of actions to assist individuals with disabilities. “When she feels all alone and like nobody understands what she’s going through, she will have her dog there for support. The changes we have seen in behavior, attitude, and the amount of meltdowns after she has cared for an animal is astonishing,” said Jenny.

The Inness family hopes to raise $4,000 through RedBasket.org to purchase Isabel a therapy dog through Domesti-PUPS. Raising these funds would improve Isabel’s life dramatically and give her more independence. “Having a therapy dog for Isabel will give her a friend that will love her unconditionally no matter the circumstances,” said Jenny. Your tax-deductible donation will bring a tremendous amount of joy and companionship to Isabel and her family’s lives. Donate and share their story today!
