The Story

Troy, AL

The Salvation Army of Troy has been dedicated to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs in His name without discrimination. The organization serves Pike County in many ways. They are a local food pantry that also provides assistance in a number of other areas including rent, utilities, prescriptions, natural disasters, and through a thrift store. However, to maintain their contract with New Southern Wholesale, the Salvation Army of Troy is in need of assistance.

New Southern Wholesale is a company that picks up the rags, or donated clothing that cannot be worn, and recycles them. Unfortunately, the area where they park their trailer has become a sinkhole. Due to this, the company has requested it be fixed or filled in or they will have to stop picking up the rags. “The tractor-trailer sunk so much that it actually fell into the Salvation Army building,” said Salvation Army Director Kimberly May.

The sinkhole is not only a nuisance, but it is also a safety hazard. Mending the sinkhole will help create an environment that is safe for staff, donors, volunteers, and clients. “Maintaining the contract by correcting the issue benefits the Salvation Army, and the Salvation Army benefits Pike, Barbour, Bullock, and Crenshaw Counties,” said Kimberly.

The Salvation Army of Troy hopes to raise $1,085 through RedBasket.org to purchase dirt, gravel, cement, and railroad ties to fix the sinkhole on their property. Raising these funds will tremendously help the Salvation Army which in turn helps the community every day in many ways. By donating and sharing the Salvation Army’s story, you can help keep the organization thriving.
