Since 1998, Miracle League has been committed to providing opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball and simply be a kid. With the help of dedicated supporters, volunteers, and staff, Douglas-Coffee County is going to be adding their own branch of the Miracle League. However, to complete their dream environment for children, the county wants to add an inclusive playground where children of all backgrounds and abilities can play together.
Miracle League of Douglas-Coffee County will remove barriers that keep individuals with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field. This will allow them to experience the joy of participating in the game of baseball while making friends, building self-esteem, and being treated like other athletes.
Along with providing opportunities through baseball and promoting community support and sponsoring of Miracle Leagues, the organization also works to promote the construction of special facilities that meet the unique needs of Miracle League players and their families. “We aspire to create a place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests,” said City of Douglas Recreation Director, Stevie Young. With an inclusive playground, children of all abilities will be able to play and interact with each other.
Miracle League of Douglas-Coffee County hopes to raise $19,280 through RedBasket.org to purchase inclusive playground equipment for children with disabilities. Raising these funds will help create a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. By making a tax-deductible donation, you can help create an engaging place that provides the right level of challenge that offers opportunities to succeed.
