The Story

Tampa, FL

Hudson Spencer has been an active Boy Scout and Cub Scout for 6 years. After years of devotion to the organization, he is finally ready to earn the honor of Eagle Scout. In order to receive his Eagle Scout badge, Hudson must complete a project that gives back to a community. With the devastation Hurricane Maria caused to Puerto Rico, many Puerto Rican students have been unable to attend school. Hudson hopes to use his Eagle Scout project to help students get back to school.

On October 15, Hudson had an opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida to help box over 3 million meals that were sent to people in need in Puerto Rico. On the way home from Orlando, Hudson mentioned that it was nice to be able to help, but he knew there had to be more he could do to help those impacted by Hurricane Maria. It was then that Hudson got the idea to collect school supplies for Puerto Rican schools. After being in contact with the Department of Education in Puerto Rico, it was confirmed that the schools were in need of supplies.

During Christmas break, Hudson, his family, and several scouts from Tampa Bay will travel to Puerto Rico to bring supplies to schools that were significantly impacted. While in Puerto Rico, the group of scouts will join with local Puerto Rican scouts to help clean up school grounds, preparing the schools to reopen. “This project offers Hudson and his fellow scouts an opportunity to work side by side with Puerto Rican scouts and help students return to school after Hurricane Maria,” said Hudson’s father, Brandon.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout and complete his Eagle Scout project, Hudson hopes to raise a minimum of $5,000 through RedBasket.org. This amount will cover the cost of supplies for one school, but if more money is donated, more schools can receive the needed supplies. Raising these funds would allow Hudson to be able to purchase a variety of supplies including books, furniture, white boards, cleaning supplies, and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) kits. This project will help Puerto Rican students get back in the classroom with proper supplies for learning. Donate and share his story today!
