The Story

West Point, NE

After a group offered to donate a plot of land in West Point, Nebraska for a veterans memorial, a committee was put together to organize and create the memorial. Following the first meeting on May 16, the committee decided to build the American Veterans Park. The memorial park aims to publicly recognize the service and sacrifice of all U.S. servicemen and women.

The unique design of American Veterans Park will honor veterans across the nation. People will be able to visit the park and view various tablets that will recognize each branch of the military. One of the memorial tables will also honor the numerous prisoners of war and those missing in action (POW/MIA). “Today, there are still more than 83,000 American troops still listed as a POW/MIA,” said American Veterans Park co-chairman, Kenneth Hanel. “These POW/MIA’s need to be honored and recognized.”

The American Veterans Park committee hopes to raise $12,000 through RedBasket.org to purchase the black granite POW/MIA tablet that will be placed at the entrance of the park. “Sacrifice without remembrance is meaningless. The American Veterans Park will bring remembrance to sacrifice,” Kenneth said. Let’s honor those who bravely served our country by making a tax-deductible donation and sharing this story today!
