The Story

Sparta, TN

When an emergency situation arises, time is of the essence. The Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad provides the reaction time necessary to save a life and rescue victims in Sparta and White County, Tennessee. Established in 1969, the rescue squad helps those in need as a result of an accident, natural disaster, or potential enemy attack. Completely volunteer based, many of the members have purchased their own safety equipment, but they are now needing to improve the response vehicles to ensure they are prepared for any emergency.

In 2016, the rescue squad responded to 164 calls. “Our hope is that you don’t need us, but if you do, we are here on call 24/7,” said rescue squad sergeant B.T. Young. There are currently 18 active members along with several lifetime and honorary members. The team is made of members with a variety of backgrounds and certifications in numerous response skills. One of the current needs is to outfit two of the emergency trucks.

The two trucks have no emergency warning lights which is vital in ensuring they arrive at any scene quickly and safely. The rescue squad hopes to raise $10,000 through RedBasket.org to purchase emergency warning lights and other equipment for the members. “It is a must that we not only get to a scene of an emergency quickly, but that we also stay as safe as we possibly can getting there,” B.T. said. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and help the Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad continue to provide emergency assistance to those in need. Share this story today!
