“This animal will assist me by warning of an anxiety attack before they get out of hand, but most importantly, this animal will give me back my freedom and independence.”
The Story

Rochester, NH

Michelle Frechette (41) is a hardworking nurse who has a passion for helping others. Her love of helping others is why she pursued a career in the medical field. In her free time Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and friends, crafting, shopping, and making people happy. Unfortunately, due to her battle with anxiety and depression, Michelle hasn’t been herself.

Since Michelle was a child, she has been coping with depression. As a child, adolescent, and even as an adult, she has been bullied. This has affected her mentally, physically, and emotionally. In 2016, her battle with depression became more prominent when her father was in a head-on collision. This event triggered mild anxiety attacks for Michelle.

Throughout her battle with anxiety and depression, Michelle noticed many of her friends shying away from her. However, the support of her family and her best friend, Esther, has been a blessing.

Given her diagnosis with anxiety and depression, Michelle’s life has changed in many ways. “I am now on more medications than I ever was. I must live with the stigma of mental health illness that most people don’t understand,” said Michelle.

After doing some research, Michelle came across an organization called Little Angels Service Dogs. A service dog would change her life in so many ways. It would help calm her anxieties and fears. She hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to purchase a service dog through Little Angels Service Dogs. “This animal will assist me by warning of an anxiety attack before they get out of hand, but most importantly, this animal will give me back my freedom and independence,” said Michelle.
