The Story

Golden, MS

Several years ago, parishioners at Golden Central Baptist Church in Golden, Mississippi recognized a great need in their county for a food pantry to help area families. According to Feeding America, 13.9 percent of residents in Tishomingo County lack access to enough food for an active and healthy lifestyle. “We believe that one of the great ways to reach our community is to help them when in need,” said church secretary, Cyndi Strickland. “We care about their needs as well as their souls.”

To combat food insecurity in the community and show the love of Christ, Golden Central Baptist Church opened a food pantry. The church congregation keeps the pantry stocked with non-perishable items by bringing food to services each week. Boxes are then created with food and are given to families who come to the pantry. Open year round, the food pantry has impacted a large number of families in the community.

During the winter time, the food pantry sees an increase in need for food. Without additional funding other than the church donations, it can be difficult to keep the pantry fully stocked. Golden Central Baptist Church hope to raise $700 through RedBasket.org to help purchase meat, non-perishable food items, and storage containers. You can help the Golden Central Baptist Church food pantry continue providing assistance for those facing food insecurity by making a tax-deductible donation. Share this story today!
