In 1992, Christian Services responded to a growing need for food assistance for Lancaster County residents by starting a food pantry. Open Monday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the food pantry provides long-term food assistance to local residents struggling with food insecurity. Christian Services has distributed approximately 6.8 million pounds of food over the last 10 years. As one of the largest food pantries in the area, the pantry is always in need of food and other items to ensure everyone in need can receive assistance.
Christian Services food pantry serves an average of 309 families in Lancaster County each week. Families and individuals facing food insecurity can visit the food pantry once a month for food assistance. The food pantry also operates mobile food trucks that deliver food to areas and individuals who may be unable to leave their homes. To fight against childhood hunger, Christian Services partnered with First Steps of Lancaster to host a backpack program that provides 250 elementary school children with food bags each weekend throughout the school year.
Due to reductions in grants received, Christian Services suffered a greatly reduced budget. To offset the loss, the food pantry staff hopes to raise $6,300 through RedBasket.org to purchase food and bags for the various assistance programs. “If we want to build stronger, healthier, and more economically vibrant communities, we must combat food insecurity,” said Christian Services Executive Director Eric Kramer. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and help Christian Services continue to make an impact on the Lancaster County community. Share this story today!
