Erin Taylor (27) loves to do arts and crafts, listen to music, and hanging out with friends. After graduating from East Carolina University with a degree in Recreational Therapy, she looks forward to entering her job field and helping people with their rehabilitation. She recently developed a passion to get involved in Christian ministry. Unfortunately, her current health challenges have prevented her from being able to work full-time and pursue her calling.
When she was 15, Erin fell ill with strep throat. After visiting her doctor, they noticed that her condition was something more concerning. She was diagnosed with pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder associated with group A streptococci (PANDAS), a rare condition where symptoms of neuropsychiatric conditions, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder or tic disorders, are worsened by strep infection. “PANDAS was a rapid onset disease. I went from a typical 15-year-old who was ready to take the world by storm to being so sick that I could no longer care for myself,” Erin said. Despite various treatment methods throughout the years, her condition never improved.
In 2016, Erin’s health took another turn when she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, and Lyme disease. She moved to Florida with her mother for rigorous Lyme disease treatment at Sponaugle Wellness Institute. The treatment regimen will optimize her chances to control her symptoms and regain her independence. While her condition has been emotionally draining for the whole family, the financial impact of her treatment has only added more stress.
Erin’s family hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to assist with the massive treatment costs and expenses. “This journey has been a difficult one with many ups and downs, but what is constant is knowing that God is my healer,” said Erin. “I am looking forward to better health where I can function in daily life and be all that God wants me to be.” By making a tax-deductible donation, you can help relieve the financial burden of Erin’s recovery journey.
