The Story

Louisville, MS

Since 2001, First United Methodist Church has been dedicated to fighting hunger in Winston County. Through various programs and initiatives, they have been able to make a difference within the community. The food pantry serves nearly 300 people each year, while the Backpack program serves nearly 100 kids per week. With hunger on the rise, they are in need of funds to purchase more food to help more people.

“The Good Samaritan Food Pantry and Backpack of Hope are ministries of Louisville United Methodist Church that provide meals and food items to those in need,” said Executive Secretary, Debra Childs. With the help of committed church members, volunteers, and civic organizations, the food pantry is able to feed families who are don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

Due to the constant support the food pantry has received from donors, they have been able to sponsor a Backpack of Hope ministry. This program allows the church to pack food items for children to take home over the weekend that are easy to prepare. The local schools have identified children who are at risk of food insecurity and the Backpack of Hope program offers them meals for the weekends when school lunches are not available.

First United Methodist Church hopes to raise $2,900 through RedBasket.org to purchase food to refill the shelves of the Good Samaritan Food Pantry and purchase food items for the Backpacks of Hope program. Raising these funds would allow the church to continue its mission of feeding hungry individuals, families, and students within Winston County. By making a tax-deductible donation, you can help provide food for people who struggle with food insecurity. Donate and share First United Methodist Church’s story today!
