The Story

Chesterfield, VA

Frankie Finney (73) loves to sing gospel music with her husband, John. She also loves to paint and craft. In 2015, Frankie and John started doing music ministry full-time and would perform at different churches and events three times a week.

On September 15, 2017, Frankie was singing the last song of a church concert when she felt an explosion in her head. They left immediately for the hospital. Doctors discovered that she suffered a stroke with a severe brain bleed. Despite the saddening news, her family and friends have been very supportive. “John has spent every night sleeping beside my bed at the hospital,” said Frankie. “They love him around here and call him Nurse John.”

Frankie's stroke left her paralyzed on the left side and unable to walk. Fortunately, her memory and speech were unaffected. She spent six weeks rehabbing, but was recently discharged. Her recovery has been steady with much progress, but she must use a wheelchair for long outings and a walker to get around her house. Since she is unable to traverse the steep steps in her home, the Finneys need to make a few home modifications to accommodate her new disability.

With their bedroom and bathroom on the second floor, the Finneys hope to raise $3,200 through RedBasket.org to make handicap accessible modifications to the main floor bathroom. They are planning to install a walk-in shower and relocate the toilet. “My goal is to become mobile again so I can rejoin John in carrying on our ministry,” Frankie said. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and give Frankie the freedom to move throughout her home without limitations. Share her story today!
