Hillsboro Interfaith Ministries (HIM) is a Christian organization that is committed to helping the needy in the community. According to Feeding America, Hill County, Texas has a food insecurity rate of 18.6 percent. Through the support of local community churches, organizations, and community members, HIM provides the most basic resources for individuals and families in Hillsboro and Hill County, Texas.
Open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, the HIM food pantry provides food and clothing to 21 communities throughout Hill County. HIM has over 1,000 households enrolled in the assistance program and serves approximately 445 families per month. Individuals and families facing food insecurity can visit the food pantry once a month to receive supplemental food and clothing. A loyal group of volunteers ensure the food and clothing areas run smoothly and are there to provide assistance to visitors and clients.
As the need for food grows, HIM is in need of a freezer in order to store perishable food donations. “Being able to store perishable items will allow us to serve better quality food for the hungry,” said food pantry treasurer, Jim Usrey. In partnership with WoodmenLife Texas Chapter 86, Hillsboro Interfaith Ministries hopes to raise $2,500 through RedBasket.org to purchase an upright freezer.
