Toby Swager has always had a heart for helping others. His love of helping people led him to pursue a career as a pastor. Throughout his career, he has seen people in their most vulnerable state which prompted him to start an organization to assist people who are facing hardships caused by natural disasters.
In 2016, Toby started an organization called Walking with Swager. The mission of Walking with Swager is to ignite purpose in people to unite the societal divide within communities. In partnership with the city of Goodlettsville, the organization trains volunteers to assist those impacted by natural disasters, poverty, or declining health through whatever means necessary. Walking with Swager partners with the local fire, police, and public works departments to assist the individual by training them to be prepared for a disaster so they can in turn assist those impacted, regardless of their situation.
“While the first responders are attending to the most critical, our team provides some of the immediate basic needs until first responders arrive on the scene,” said Toby, who is the president and executive director of the organization. Walking with Swager provides disaster relief, pastoral support, clean-up, and basic needs including food and water. With the program growing, Walking with Swager is in need of supplies and equipment to help the organization run efficiently.
Toby hopes to raise $30,000 through RedBasket.org to purchase a truck, trailer, various equipment, and supplies for Walking with Swager. Raising these funds would allow the organization to be able to help more people and have a place to store equipment when it’s not in use. “This project helps those impacted by need throughout our community,” said Toby.
