The Story

Danbury, TX

Patricia Tatom (59) is a devoted family woman. She is a proud mother of two, and serves as a caregiver to her mother (81). “My two sons and my mother are my whole life,” said Patricia. She values her health and enjoys living an active lifestyle. She has a passion for waterskiing and has been riding the waves for 35 years. Unfortunately, due to her diagnosis of breast cancer, Patricia has been unable to stay active and live a life she loves.

In January 2017, Patricia saw her doctor for an annual mammogram. During the routine checkup, her doctor noticed some abnormalities. Only five short days later, Patricia went in again for an ultrasound, biopsy, and then a double mastectomy. After the various tests and procedures, Patricia was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Patricia’s diagnosis has led to numerous treatments including chemotherapy and breast reconstruction.

Patricia’s diagnosis of breast cancer has affected her mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially. She’s been out of work since the end of January and is on the verge of losing her benefits. “My savings has been completely drained,” said Patricia. Although Patricia has been through a lot over the course of six months, she still maintains a positive attitude. She remains hopeful that she will get back to enjoying an active lifestyle with her friends and family.

With three more surgeries to go, Patricia hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to assist with medical bills. Raising these funds would allow her to get back to living a life she loves without the added stress of medical bills. “I will feel like seeing my sons and my friends. I will be able to travel with my friends,” said Patricia. Donate and share Patricia’s story today!
