The Story

La Puente, CA

Victoria and Eric Stuessel have been married since 2011 and have three children. The Stuessels love going camping, relaxing in the backyard, sitting around their homemade fire pit, eating BBQ, and sharing silly stories. Despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), Victoria’s life has drastically changed, but she remains hopeful to one day stop the progression of her disease.

In 2012, Victoria began experiencing symptoms that doctors could not even diagnose. She was prescribed different medications, but none were successful. In March 28, 2016, Victoria was rushed to the emergency room with what she thought was a stroke, but doctors did not see any alarming issues. After following up with her primary physician, she underwent a spinal tap which reveled she had MS, an incurable and progressive disease of the nervous system. Victoria was prescribed a disease modifying drug that she must inject three times a week to help slow down the progression.

Victoria’s condition has only worsened since her diagnosis. The right side of her body is numb which affects the way she walks. Small daily tasks like opening or lifting items are difficult. No matter how much sleep she gets or how many cups of coffee she consumes, she is always overwhelmed with fatigue. Her MS has not only affected her physical abilities, but her cognitive abilities as well. “My cognition has greatly diminished and often times I am at a loss for words because what I am thinking cannot properly translate through my speech,” said Victoria. While there is no cure for MS, Victoria is now seeking a hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT).

HSCT is a one-time treatment that has shown success in stopping the progression of MS. The transplant cost is anywhere between $54,000 and $125,000. Victoria hopes to raise $20,000 through RedBasket.org to help offset some of the transplant costs. “It will eliminate the unknown future for my inevitable MS progression,” Victoria said. “I will no longer have the fear of what could happen in the next two minutes, two weeks, two months, or two years.” Help Victoria receive this life changing transplant and beat MS by making a tax-deductible donation!
